Being a part of the oldest medical college in Asia, the Department of Anaesthesiology aims at providing an anaesthesia service by personnel trained in using our modern paraphernalia (equipment) and also training our bright residents this wondrous combination of science and sense while maintaining a calm humane touch.
Our department has been providing anaesthesia for cases in general surgery; obstetrics and gynaecology; ear, nose and throat; neurosurgery; genitourinary surgery; ophthalmology; orthopaedics; trauma; plastic surgery; paediatric surgery round the clock and 365 days in a year.
We also care intensively for our critically ill patients. Renal transplant is being done by Dr Shirley D’Souza and Dr Chitra Juvarkar - Associate professor trained for the procedure. A cardiothoracic unit has been has been started recently, with highly qualified anaesthesiologists to provide quality care. The paramedical course to train technicians in operation theatre and intensive care unit has also commenced.
The Professor and Head of our department has written two excellent books on the very important topics:
The practical applications of mechanical ventilation
Practical applications of intravenous fluid therapy in perioperative period
Both books are published by famous publisher Jaypee – Delhi. The practical applications of mechanical ventilation is later published by Mac Grow hill and declared by Jaypee publisher as best seller of the year.
The both books will serve as a guide to our students and an encouragement to achieve academic excellence to the other members of the faculty.
Dr Deepa C has joined as lecture in the department from17th Jan. She has done fellowship in ICU and instrumental to improve ICU care.
Our faculty have been guiding our students in their clinical research, making discoveries which will further enhance the knowledge of our dynamic branch of medicine.
The students who had been trained in our institute have gone on to acclaim great heights in their chosen super-specialities and we endeavour to continue the same in the future to come.
