1.Aims and Objectives:

Goa Medical College and Hospital is a Government tertiary care hospital. It is our constant endeavor to provide quality services to all those who visit the hospital. The services provided at the Goa Medical College are described in the citizen's charter for GMC and are also available on the website GMC is also a teaching hospital. The college is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and also provides training to students pursuing their education in the field of dentistry, nursing and other affiliated fields.

2.Mission /Vision of the Department:

The vision of this institute is to impart quality medical services to the all sections of the society and further improve the health scenario of the State. The college maintains high standards of medical education conforming to the guidelines laid down by the Medical Council of India to ensure that we bridge the treatment gap for medical care in the community.

3.Brief History and background of establishment of the public authority:

Goa Medical College is the successor of the 'Escola Medico Cirungica de Goa' established by the Portuguese in the year 1842 and thus one of the oldest Centre of Medical Education in this part of the world. 
In the year 1963, this Medical School was upgraded as Goa Medical College, attached to the Bombay University and later in the year 1983 affiliated to Goa University. This is one of the prestigious institution of the country, recognized by the Medical Council of India, admits 100 students for undergraduate M.B.B.S. Course, while 72 Post - Graduate are admitted every year. The Goa Medical College Hospital were initially operating from Panaji and Ribandar, shifted to Bambolim in the year1991, has presently 1000 beds, whereas 80 bedded TB and Chest Disease Hospital functions from St.Inez, Panaji. Similarly, a 20 bedded Rural Health and Training Centre is situated in Mandur. The entire complex at Goa Medical College, Bambolim is spread in an area of 11,34,798 Sq Mts.

There are total 1100 beds at the hospitals of Goa Medical College. The Out-Patient-Department is run by the Clinical Departments from 9.00 A.M to 1.00 P.M. on all working days, while special Clinics are conducted in the afternoon by these departments. The Casualty runs for 24 hrs on all days proving emergency and Trauma services. Pre Hospital emergency care is provided by the 108 ambulance service. There are 12 Routine and 6 Emergency Operation Theaters, which conduct major to minor operation routinely and in emergency X-Ray, Ultra-sound, CT Scan and MRI facilities are available ECG, Stress - Test and Colour Doppler facilities are available. Radiotheraphy facilities is available for cancer patients.

Haemodialysis is provided for Renal failure patients. Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Plastic surgery is being developed. Similarly, Cardiology and Cardio Therocic Surgery is also under consideration.

The public can approach this institution for seeking Medical help, for various health problems. Citizens are expected to follow the instructions provided by the hospital staff to ensure efficient service.

10.Grievance Redressal Mechanism

The Medical Superintendent is a Public Grievance Officer. The Public Grievance are received by the Office of the Medical Superintendent and prompt action is taken as per the requirements.
